THE Chairman of Tanzania National Sports Council (NSC) Col. Iddi Kipingu is expected to grace the opening ceremony of the much anticipated Junior Simba Tennis Camp on Monday, the Tanzania Tennis Association has said.
The local tennis body also confirmed that the camp that runs for five days of full immersion tennis at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club would be facilitated by Italian tennis guru Fabrizio Caldarone, assisted by two local coaches namely Hassan Kassim and former national coach Morris Njohole.
Inger Njau, the TTA Secretary General revealed in a statement that all is already set for the success of the camp, saying it would be nice for every parent and guardian to list their children for this great opportunity.
She said the camp was kept open for all to participate courtesy of sole sponsor Simba Cement, with the major aim to benefit a wider pool of young athletes from across the country. With the clock ticking towards starting the camp, over 60 junior tennis athletes are expected to beat today’s registration deadline to part of the new tennis motivation.
Inger affirmed: “This is a great opportunity that we should all look up to. I personally would like to express our appreciation to Simba Cement Limited for making this happen. I would also like to call upon our major stakeholders, the parents and guardians, to support the success of this initiative by registering their children participation.”
She said the participants will be awarded certificates, saying the party will culminate with a two day competitive networking event that is expected to attract participation from across five regions of Tanzania.
“Immediately after the camp, the 2011 season of CRB African Legal Open Junior Tennis Tournament kick start offering all junior athletes a rare opportunity to mingle competitively, but most importantly grab points for the ongoing national ranking,’ said Inger.
