YOSSO celebrate milestones in Arusha

YOSSO Director, Prosper present balls to YOSSO United captain, Messi during inauguration match ceremony

Youth Social Sport Organization (YOSSO), recently celebrated their partnership with Kambarage FC to form YOSSO United Arusha, an under 14 football team in Soweto playground. Present at a celebratory reception were representatives from Kambarage FC together with supporters from communities, all of whom support YOSSO’s youth projects. The words “Empowering youth through sport” echoed around the playground. YOSSO aims to train 1200 girl and children through football in entrepreneurship, life skills and leadership around Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Manyara region in 2012-2015, but is already looking to exceed this.

The success of ‘YOSSO United’, which train youth and children in life skills, leadership and HIV/AIDS awareness, has also contributed to the record number of peer leaders at Ukombozi Primary school in Manzese slums . So far up to this year there have been 300 enrolled through the project.
Prosper Mambo, Executive Director of YOSSO, said: “The YOSSO ‘Peer leadership’ programme is a best-practice example of how volunteerism, sports and youth development programmes have combined to improve the quality of life of a large and growing number of children and youth, and to empower them to productive roles within their communities.
The center have also recorded that more 100 children have received training in peer leadership at YOSSO Ukombozi primary school since 2010, using the sports technique. Please click here for more picture.

What We Do
YOSSO acts upon the needs and rights of children and youth from disadvantage communities and supports the provision of training in life skills, HIV/AIDS awareness, leadership and entrepreneurship. It is estimated that YOSSO reaches out over 1600 children and youth in outreach program across Manzese slums in year 2011/2012. Wherever possible, it is the aim to establish access to these projects within the communities and to empower communities to change their own lives. Based on MDGs goals and over years of professional expertise and experience, YOSSO addresses poverty as a cause and consequence of gender inequality, rise of HIV/AIDS infections and early pregnancy among girls, and works in partnership to create a society for all.

Volunteering at YOSSO
YOSSO is working in partnership with Government of Tanzania through primary schools by providing training in life skills, leadership, HIV/AIDS awareness, sport coaching and entrepreneurship to children aged 6 to 14 years and youth aged 15 to 24 years.
Volunteers are needed mainly to assist in the schools, organising activities for the children and helping the teachers and coaches. YOSSO's volunteer program offers a great opportunity to get involved and to contribute towards the development of children from vulnerable backgrounds. You can choose to teach English language, sports coaching, arts, life skills, HIV/AIDS education, mentoring, IT skills training and a host of other fun activities all aimed at building critical life skills among our children. Whatever your background, level of interest, passion & commitment, there will almost certainly be an opportunity for you to get involved with YOSSO!
